Meet your teacher:
My name is Jessica Ray and this will be my 12th year teaching. I have taught both first and second grade, but have spent majority of my time teaching first grade.
A little background about me. Although I have lived in the south for many years I am not a true southerner. Growing up my family moved around a lot. I have lived in California, Tennessee, Indiana, Colorado, and South Carolina. While I am not from the south I have grown to love it and consider it home. In 2007 I graduated from Anderson University with a Bachelor's in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. In 2011 I graduated from Clemson University with a Master's in Reading and Literacy.
I like to use my time in the summers to travel and explore different cultures. Over the years I have been to Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Prague, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Croatia, Italy, Greece, Africa, and England. One of my favorite travel experiences was having the opportunity to camp in a volcano in Africa. That experience happened because I was invited to help pass out shoes to school age children who lived in the dormant volcano crater (it was actually 2 volcanoes, one inside the other and we camped in the outer crater). That experience is something I will not soon forget and something that I carry with me when I teach.
One of my strongest desires for my class is to make learning a fun, engaging, meaningful, and memorable experience for my students.
