We have had a very busy week! The first few weeks of first grade are spent reviewing a lot of kindergarten skills and doing lessons that help us learn procedures and expectations that will set us up for a great rest of the year to learn all of the foundations we will use in our academic years ahead.
As part of our shapes unit we have been learning a song. I've included it below. It's to the tune of Farmer in the Dell (please keep in mind I'm not a song writer but it gets the job done LOL).

For phonics we started working in our interactive notebooks. This is a place where we make special pages to help reinforce the skills we are learning about. We have 1 notebook for fluency (this helps us become a strong reader and increase our comprehension), 1 notebook for ELA skills (phonics, writing, and grammar), and 1 notebook for math. This week we used them to help us review beginning sounds of words. These notebooks also help build our fine motor skills as we have to use a lot of our smaller muscles in our hands to cut and manipulate the parts of the page.
We have also started using www.gonoodle.com for brain breaks and as part of our morning meeting. This is a free resource that you can sign up for at home if you'd like to check it out.
