This week our class had a very bad case of stripes. Thursday we celebrated literacy day at school. Each class was asked to dress up to represent a book. Our class book was A Bad Case of Stripes by David Shannon. That afternoon we had a school wide "book fashion show" and at the end of the fashion show we had some special visitors come: Jack and Annie from the Magic Tree House series. | |
| During our reading time we focused on parts of a story. We learned that all stories have : beginning, middle, and end; setting; and characters. The youtube video on the side is one that we used to help us remember the parts of a good story. In writing we continued learning about what it means to write about our opinion. Tuesday I brought in several different kinds of cookies (chocolate chip, birthday cake oreo, mint oreo, and double stuffed oreo). We had a cookie tasting and each student voted on their favorite. We then made a chart of the reasons we liked each cookie. They used this to write an opinion piece about which cookie was their favorite and gave 3 reasons that it was their favorite. |
March 2 was Dr. Seuss' birthday. The first grade teachers surprised the kids Friday by having a Dr. Seuss celebration. We made Oobleck, painted a Lorax and used our following direction skills to complete a Cat in the Hat. This link will take you to the Oobleck recipe: http://www.food.com/recipe/dr-seuss-oobleck-289923
