After our field trip to the Fire Department we took a few days to write about what we say, learned, and who we met. After we wrote about it we recorded it and used the recording to create a QR code so that people can scan and hear us read our writing to them. The students really enjoyed the recording part. :)
Here is an example of the final product:
We have also been spending a LOT of time on writing good sentences. We worked with partners so that each student could have a chance to be the "teacher". This was so fun to watch and listen in on because I could hear them all explaining to each other why they were writing certain parts of the sentences. We have spent a great deal of time learning to identify things good sentences need (capital, period, spacing, good handwriting, subject, and verb) and we are beginning to use our highlighters as tools to help us see that we have capitals and periods (highlighting our capital and period not only helps them stand out but causes us to look back and make sure we have them which is the beginning of learning to edit our work). We still have more work to do with sentences but we are on our way to writing some very strong sentences!
Here is the final result.
