You know it is offically fall when everything turns to pumpkins. This wek we focused our writing around pumpkins. In first grade writing takes several days. On Monday we started out with our mystery box.
The students had no idea what we would be writing about this week so I used this as a chance to review our skill of inferece and gave them 1 clue at a time and after each clue they had to try to guess what our writing topic would be for the week. We passesd the mystery box around the circle so everyone could feel if it was heavy or light and see if that helped them guess what was inside.
Once we had heard all the clues and made all of our guesses the box was unwrapped so we could discover our writing topic: PUMPKINS!
I tried to get a variety so that they could see that pumpkins are not always orange.

Tuesday and Wednesday we focused on making our graphic organizers to help us with turning our thoughts into a paragraph.
Wednesday after we made our tree maps we used them to write a rough draft so that Friday we could write our final piece. The students will be bringing these home soon so be on the look out for them :).
Friday we also had our Farm Day Field Trip. Below are some pictures from the day. I will have a few more to share next week as well because we are still having some people send in pictures they took during the field trip. I'm also not really sure why so many of the pictures load sideways but I will try to figure out how to correct that.
