This week we celebrated Grandparent's Day and had our Open House.
At Grandparent's Day we sang a few of our class songs. I have included the youtube videos we used. For the Hannah Montana one you'll have to ask your student to share our lyrics with you. It is our song we sing at the beginning of writing to help get us thinking about complete sentences.

At our Open House we made Reading Strategy Toolkits.
In first grade, as we learn to become stronger readers, we have some strategies we use to help us figure out words we get stuck on.
Our strategies are:
Lips the Fish (get your mouth ready to read)
Chunky Monkey (find a chunk in the word you already know)
Stretchy Snake (stretch the word out and sound it out)
Flippy Dolphin (flip the vowel buddies)
Eagle Eye (look for picture clues)
Skippy Frog (skip over the word and come back to try again)
Tryin' Lion (don't give up, think of a strategy to try)
