We have startedI realize it has been a while since I've updated our class blog. The past few months have been much busier than I anticipated but I'm hoping to get back in the groove and start posting more updates. With the weather keeping us out Friday I thought it might be helpful to also post next week's spelling words here. They are: bird, fly, those, walk, or, eyes, long, both, like, nice.
We have had a very busy and very productive start back to school after our winter break. We have started learning the differences between long and short vowels. We have also been working on the difference between a hard /g/ sound and a soft /g/ sound (example: g in gem is a soft g and g in go is a hard g). We use a song from a blog called First Grade W.O.W. to help us learn about the hard and soft g sounds. I have included a picture of the song below. For copyright and credit reasons I am also including the link to that blog (http://firstgradewow.blogspot.com/2013/12/new-year-2014.html)

This past fall we received a grant that provided our class with 3 iPad minis. We have been using them a lot in class to help with building our reading skills, listening to reading, and to monitor growth using a few fun apps.
